AGARTALA, March 27 The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) is contemplating to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Governor PB Acharya to press for a CBI probe into all chit fund related complaints.

The redressal cell set up by the party has received written complaints from a large number of duped depositors during the past one and half months. Now, we want to meet the Prime Minister to brief him about the menace, said CLP leader Sudip Roy Barman at a press conference in Congress Bhavan here on Friday.

From January 12 till date, the CLP, through the redressal cell, has received countless complaints against 117 Non- Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) involving Rs 158.43 crore .

Flanked by party leaders MLA Asish Saha, Youth Congress president Sushanta Chowdhury, Roy Barman said he had already sought time from the PMO to meet the Prime Minister. Our plan is to meet the Prime Minister to brief him on how poor people are being cheated by NBFCs promoted by ruling party leaders including Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and some of his Cabinet colleagues, he said.

Once we get the green signal from the PMO, we will meet the Prime Minister to press for a CBI probe into all the chit fund related cases as well as complaints, he said.

Besides, the CLP is also planning to meet the Governor shortly to make him aware about the NBFC menace and role of ruling party leaders in the mushrooming chit fund business.

Following intense pressure, the State Government launched a massive crackdown on the NBFCs two years back and lodged 37 FIRs against 24 NBFCs. Of the total cases, the CBI has taken up investigation into five cases.

Meanwhile, a division bench of High Court of Tripura has asked the State Government to constitute a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to investigate all chit fund related cases within two weeks following a writ petition filed by two duped depositors.

According to sources, the government is in the process of constituting a SIT to undertake the probe into all chit fund related cases.
