AGARTALA, May 30 (IANS): The Tripura census authority has warned population enumerators of stern disciplinary action in case they are found negligent, an official said today.
"So far one enumerator has been suspended from service for negligence and we have also given warning to some others after receiving complaints against them," Tripura census operation director Dilip Acharjee told IANS.
Acharjee and senior officials held meeting Sunday with the supervisors and enumerators engaged in the ongoing census works and asked them to "complete the national programme perfectly".
He said that after the first phase of census work, the population data of the seven northeastern states would be scanned in directorate of Assam census in Guwahati for systematic use.
"An estimated 10,000 enumerators and supervisors have been appointed to visit every household in Tripura to carry out the task of door-to-door headcount for the National Register of Indian Citizens (NRIC)," Acharjee said.
The 2011 census operation officially started in Tripura April 26. "About 80 percent of the first phase of census work has been completed in the mountainous state and the remaining would be completed by June 9," he said.
"During the 45 days of the work, the census officials will be collecting personal information on every individual in each family. This would be incorporated in the proposed unique identification card project, which would cover all citizens aged 18 years and above," he added.
Acharjee said that the actual population enumeration would be undertaken simultaneously across the country Feb 9-28, 2011 followed by a five-day revision round March 1-5, 2011.
The preliminary census result would be declared March 25, 2011, he said.
