AGARTALA, Feb 24 Tripura Assembly on Friday witnessed uproarious scenes with Congress legislators persistently opposing Governor DY Patils speech on the first day of the Budget session.

As the House began, the Governor started reading out his 24-page speech amidst slogans for CBI probe into the alleged relation between Minister Sahid Chowdhury and HUJI activist Mamun Miah.

However, the Governor continued with his customary speech mainly focusing on the governments achievements.

In his speech, Patil trained his gun on the Congress-led UPA Government for new economic policies in the name of liberalisation. He said the inadequate award of the 13th Finance Commission has put the State in an extremely difficult position despite the States prudent financial management.

Giving an instance of the deprivation, the Governor said the FC has sanctioned non-plan gap grant of Rs 4,453 crore for five year period as against the requirement of Rs 14,712 crore leaving a gap of about Rs 10,259 crore.

Thus, I would like to request the Centre to provide necessary support to the State so that it could carry forward the development process, he said.

Besides highlighting the Left Front Governments success in various fields including agriculture, education and healthcare sectors, the Governor welcomed Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasinas visit to Agartala. It is expected that the visit will greatly help in improving connectivity of Tripura with Bangladesh and through Bangladesh, with the rest of the country.
