AGARTALA, July 31 - Altogether 219 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura in the past 24 hours. With the latest infections, the State�s tally has touched 4,737, while 284 patients were released from COVID Care Centres (CCCs) and Dedicated COVID Hospitals (DCHs) on Thursday, which is the highest single-day release in the State.
Of the 219 fresh cases, West district recorded more than 90 cases.
�Happy to share that 284 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from various CCCs & DCHs today. The figure is the highest in one day count so far. I appreciate the efforts of our medical teams who are involved in providing treatment to COVID-19 patients,� Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said in a Facebook post.
Due to the discharge of 282 patients in a single day, the recovery rate of the State has improved from 61 per cent to 66.62 per cent.
Meanwhile, Tripura has been ranked second in terms of carrying out COVID-19 tests per million people. �Feeling proud to share that Tripura has ranked 2nd among all Indian States & UTs which are performing more than 140 COVID-19 tests per day per million population. We are conducting 1323 tests per day per million,� Deb said in the post.
On the fourth day of the household survey being carried out in the State, survey teams covered 1.56 lakh households and identified 4,585 persons for antigen tests. As many as 144 persons tested positive in antigen tests in the past 24 hours. Sources said the spike in positive cases was not surprising as the number of COVID tests has increased manifold since the survey was launched.
However, Opposition leader Manik Sarkar was unhappy at the way the State Government is handling the situation. �The State Government has failed to tackle the situation in an effective manner, leading to a steep rise in positive cases. The State already has 4,737 positive cases and 22 deaths which is not a good sign for a State like Tripura,� he said.
Sarkar said that the Government had not tested all the returnees, which might have contributed to the large-scale spread of the disease in the State. �The Government could have tested all the persons who had returned to the State from outside during the lockdown. The testing formula of 5:1 adopted by the State has played spoilsport in the battle against the pandemic,� he added.
