Tributes to senior scribe Simanta Bhagawati

GUWAHATI, April 27 - The media fraternity today paid heartfelt tribute to senior scribe Simanta Bhagawati who passed away on April 21.

Bhagawati (53), who was associated with The Assam Tribune as chief sub editor till May last year, was also an avid tennis player. He suffered massive stroke while playing tennis and later breathed his last in a city hospital.

The memorial meeting held today was organised by the Journalist Forum Assam at the Guwahati Press Club.

Speaking on the occasion, most of the people remembered him as a dedicated journalist with cheerful nature. A jolly person, who was loved by all, Bhagawati leaves behind his wife, daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers.

Speaking briefly, daughter Ananya Simanta termed his father �a unique individual and her best friend�. His uncle Robin Borthakur remembered him as a devoted journalist and a warm-hearted family member.

Elder brother Santanu Bhagawati, sister Manashi Bhagawati Khaund and other relatives like Mala Sharma, Roman Sarma, Binu Bhagawati, Ratna Rani Kalita, Aditya Bhagawati, etc., were also present on the occasion.

Journalists Rupam Barua, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria with Jagadindra Raichoudhury, Ranjan Barua, etc., also mourned the untimely demise of Simanta Bhagawati, in the meeting.

The participants also paid floral tributes to deceased Bhagawati on the occasion.
