Tributes to Oct 30, 2008 blast victims

GUWAHATI, Oct 30 - The Kamrup (Metro) district administration today organised a special memorial function under the Ganeshguri flyover to pay tribute to the victims of the serial bomb blasts of October 30, 2008.

An all-faith prayer programme was organised to mark the occasion. The serial bomb blasts in Guwahati, Barpeta Road, Bongaigaon and Kokrajhar on October 30, 2008 remain among the most dastardly acts of terrorism the State has witnessed.

Earlier during the programme, Guwahati Development Department (GDD) Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya lit earthen lamps in memory of the departed souls.

Media Adviser to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami, Lok Sabha MP Queen Oja, Dispur MLA Atul Bora, Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu, Guwahati Police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta and members of the victims� families among others were also present at the programme.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal paid tribute to the victims of the serial bomb blasts in Assam and offered prayers for their souls through a tweet.

The All Assam Students� Union (AASU) also paid tribute to the victims across the State with slogans against terrorism. The student body�s district and regional units lit earthen lamps in memory of the blast victims.

In the city, members of AASU shouted anti-terrorism slogans and offered prayers for the victims. They also lit earthen lamps at Swahid Nyas.

AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath, vice-president Bipul Rabha and president of All Guwahati Students� Union Anowar Hussain among others were present at the programme here.

The Lawyers� Association Guwahati also organised a tribute programme on the CJM court premises. The members paid tribute to the departed souls and offered prayers for them.
