GUWAHATI, May 27 - Speakers at a State-level commemorative meeting held at the Bishnu-Nirmala Trust Bhawan here today paid rich tributes to former student leader Saurabh Bora and CPI-ML leader Vaskar Nandy.
They also made an appeal to the people of the country to wage a valiant struggle against the fascist-communal and chauvinist forces active in India.
It needs to be mentioned here that Saurabh Bora was killed by the ULFA gunmen on the Dibrugarh University campus on May 27 in 1986, while Vaskar Nandy, who was leading the Provisional Central Committee of the CPI-ML as its general secretary, died in Jalpaiguri on May 4 this year. Saurabh Bora was a leader of the Jorhat unit of the All Assam Students� Union (AASU) in the 1970s. He later joined the PCC CPI-ML and was one of the founders of the United Reservation Movement Council of Assam (URMCA), which was later rechristened as the United Revolutionary Movement Council of Assam.
The meeting was addressed by women activist Sumitra Hazarika, working president of the Assam Majuri Shramik Union Krishna Kanta Gogoi, Sadou Assam Khetiyok Santha general secretary Nanda Medhi, Eakalabya editor Debabrata Sarma, trade union leader of Barak Valley Dharitri Sarma, and Indian Students� Association�s ex-president Debajit Choudhury.
The meeting resolved to publish the writings of Vaskar Nandy, regarded as one of the leading theoreticians of the Communist movement in the country, said a press release.
