Tributes to Kushal Konwar

GUWAHATI, June 15 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said that everyone should put in their best efforts to make India a global leader in order to pay tribute to the supreme sacrifices of martyrs like Kushal Konwar.

Speaking at a function to mark the 74th death anniversary of Kushal Konwar, the Chief Minister said that, motivated by the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Konwar laid down his life for the cause of the nation.

Because of the sacrifices made by martyrs like Kushal Konwar, India gained independence. Therefore, the people of the State irrespective of Barak, Brahmaputra, hills and plains should pledge to live up to the values, ideals and customs set by our freedom fighters.

Speaking at the observance of 74th death anniversary of Swahid Kushal Konwar organised by the Kamrup (M) district administration at Nehru Park here today, Chief Minister Sonowal said this while leading the State in paying rich tributes to Kushal Konwar.

Sonowal also said that for the overall development of Assam everybody has to work in tandem. �We can pay our tribute to Swahid Kushal Konwar only when we are resolved to motivate our young generation towards the noble objective of our freedom fighters,� he said.

APCC tribute: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) commemorated the contributions of the martyr at a function held at the Rajiv Bhawan here today. Congress leaders, including former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi paid floral tributes and spoke on the contributions made by the martyr.

Earthen lamps were lit in the Rajiv Bhawan complex in the evening hours as a mark of respect to the martyr. Similar functions were also organised at the district offices of the party, said a press release here.
