Tributes paid to RG Baruah

GUWAHATI, July 15 - Tributes were paid to �Singhapurush� RG Baruah on his 38th death anniversary at a memorial meet near his statute at the Dighalipukhuripaar here early this morning.

Several eminent personalities gathered for the occasion and paid floral tributes to RG, who is also considered as the architect of modern Assam.

The memorial meet, organised by the RG Baruah Smriti Rakhya Samity, recalled the contributions made by RG in diverse spheres.

Among those present on the occasion were PG Baruah, Editor of The Assam Tribune, SG Baruah, Director, Assam Tribune Group of Publication, advocate Sanjib Lahkar, senior citizen Pradeep Kakati, journalist Naren Kalita, Radha Bora and sports organiser Tridib Duvarah.

General secretary of the RG Baruah Smriti Rakhya Samity, Bhuban Lahkar conducted the proceedings.

�RG Baruah contributed in almost all spheres, be it sports or culture. It is now our responsibility to preserve and promote his works, ideals and principles for the next generation,� advocate Sanjib Lahkar said.

Sports organiser Tridib Duvarah said that for his immense contribution to society, RG should be conferred Padma Bhushan posthumously and the RG Baruah Smriti Rakhya Samity must take up the matter with the Prime Minister�s Office.
