GUWAHATI, Jan 23 Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is one of the greatest leaders and patriots the country has ever produced, said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at a function organised at Kahilipara Colony by Sanskriti Samaj here today.

Netaji plunged headlong into the freedom movement and freed the country from the yoke of colonialism, he said.

Gogoi said Netaji fought against imperialism by opposing tooth and nail all sorts of oppression and subjugation and freed the country from the chains of slavery. For the supreme sacrifices of Netaji and others, we are breathing the air of freedom today, he said.

The Chief Minister said though the country has attained political independence, it has still miles to go to attain economic independence. We have attained political independence, but we have to strive relentlessly towards achieving economic independence. For this, we have to work together to remove poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and other problems plaguing us, he added.

Inspired by Netajis ideals, the Government of Assam is working towards solving various problems that of health, education, unemployment, drinking water and sanitation, said Gogoi and sought the cooperation of one and all.

The Chief Minister exhorted upon the people to protect the rich cultural heritage and to defend the countrys territorial unity and integrity by invoking the spirit of Netajis unbounded love and patriotism.
