Tributes paid to Kalaguru

TEZPUR, June 20 � Paying tribute to cultural icon �Kalaguru� Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that despite many social unrests and disturbances in the society, people of the State are living in a �human society� as a fruition of the untiring works of cultural icons like Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Natasurya Phani Sharma and Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

�Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha was a revolutionary figure, a poet, a writer and a great classical icon not only of Assam, but also for the people across the world,� said Gogoi who came to grace the �Bishnu Rabha Award-2014� presentation function organized by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs in Tezpur.

Gogoi also stated that there is an urgent need to create an atmosphere of harmony among the different communities of the region through cultural exchanges which was a dream of the immortal cultural figures born on the State�s soil. �Culture is the main platform for taking forward our nation. Culture also has a deep relation with nature. It is a matter of regret that today we are destroying this relation with nature as our natural resources are being destroyed relentlessly.�

The �Bishnu Rabha Award 2014� was presented to noted artists Nalini Kanta Baruah, Aimoni Gogoi and Hela Das.

Gogoi also declared an assistance of Rs 50 lakh for development of the Bishnu Rabha Somadhisthol and said that there will be a Jyoti-Bishnu Cultural University at Balipara near here for which a plot of 75 bighas of land has been allotted.
