GUWAHATI, Dec 7 � With an objective to provide one stop solution to the management aspirants of the Northeast, the second edition of the Assam Tribune Management Fair started today at Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor Stadium at the Nehru Stadium complex.
The fair would continue till tomorrow, where as many as 72 reputed management institutions from all over the country are participating.
�Management is one of the most sought after careers among the students now. Increasing demand of management graduates and post graduates and good salary packages are attracting the students� towards this field. But at the same time, the choice of a good management institutions is all the more important to fulfill the dreams of the students,� Indrajit Das, director of Impact Media, organizers of the event said.
�The Assam Tribune Management fair has taken this initiative to bring the leading management institutes under one roof and make the selection relatively easier for the students,� he added.
United World School of Business, which participated in the last year�s management fair, got a very good response from the NE students last year. According to Joyjit Sonya Roy, Manager Marketing, East, the performance of those student is much more than what was expected. �Hard-working and disciplined, most of the students of this region are focused on their goals. We are looking forward to get more students from the region this year,� he said. The institute has its campuses in Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Singapore.
�I am here to get information about the scholarships different management institutions are offering. Based of the fee structure and experience, I would shortlist some of the institutes in Kolkata and Delhi, before visiting those institutes for physical verification,� Bornali Deka, a management aspirant said.
�Selection of a good management institute depends largely on the faculty base and experience of the institute. NE students are hardworking, but lack of exposure and limited resources might lead them to wrong places,� said Deepak Reddy, secretary of the Aditya Educational Institutions, having 26 years of experience in the academic field and 50 different educational institutions.
�It is seen that Bangalore and Chennai are considered as favourite destinations by the NE students. I would suggest that not the place but the quality of the institute should be preferred by the students. AICTE and UGC approval are other important criteria,� he said cautioning the students against the institution which promise 100 per cent placement guarantees.
Lovely Professional University of Punjab is offering a wide range of scholarships to the management students on merit basis. The institute also conducts test for scholarships to provide financial aid to other needy students.
�Over the years, quality of education has improved significantly in Assam and Northeast in general. Thus, we at EIILM are getting good students from here. Faculty base of the management institutions is something the aspiring students should give importance to,� Debarati Majumder, head of admissions and assistant professor of the EIILM said. The Kolkata-based institute has been rated among the top 15 B-schools by the Competition Success Review magazine.
Some of the other prominent management institutions participating in the fair include New Delhi Institution of Management, ITM, IIPM, Kohinoor, IMBT, ILEAD, RIMS, INLEAD, Dhruva College of Management, Jettwings and GL Bajaj Institute of Management and Research, among others.
