GUWAHATI, Feb 20 - A condolence meeting was held on the Assam Tribune premises today to pay tribute to the martyrs of the February 14 Pulwama terror attack.
The meeting, organised by the Management and the Assam Tribune Employees� Union (ATEU), was presided over by Union president Santanava Hazarika. Referring to the past attacks, including the Kandahar plane hijack, Mumbai terror attack, Parliament attack and the recent Palwama attack, Hazarika said Pakistan is bent upon continuing a two-pronged warfare and India needs to be on alert, irrespective of the political dispensation at the Centre, to thwart such future attempts.
ATEU secretary Dugdharam Kalita said that jawans attained martyrdom for the country by making supreme sacrifice. �The strong determination exuded by the jawans continues to inspire us,� said Kalita, adding that the sacrifices made by the jawans will always inspire the new generation to make sacrifices for the nation.
Director of the Assam Tribune group Babita Rajkhowa, speaking on the occasion, expressed her deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
Earlier, Hemanta Barman, ATEU executive member, read out the citation that will be given to the bereaved family of Maneswar Basumatary of Assam, who was killed in the Pulwama attack.
On February 23, a delegation comprising representatives of the Management of the Assam Tribune group and the ATEU will visit the family of late Basumatary at Tamulpur to pay tribute to the martyr.
