Tribune Group, Dr Krori to be awarded

GUWAHATI, Aug 19 � The Assam Tribune Group of Newspapers and eminent academic Dr Kamalendu Deb Krori have been chosen for two prestigious awards constituted by the KC Das Commerce College Educational Trust.

Dr Krori, has been selected for the KC Das Commerce College National Teacher Award, 2011 for his contribution to academics and education. He was selected by an award committee comprising former VC of Gauhati University Dr NK Choudhury as the chairperson, and Dr Kulendu Pathak and Dr Rekha Deka as members.

The KC Das Commerce College National Achiever Award, 2011 will be presented to the Assam Tribune Group of Newspapers for maintaining consistently high standards in journalism. The selection committee included Padmashree Arun Sarma as chairperson, and Prafulla Ch Baruah and Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty as members.

Each of the awards comprises a citation, a memento and one lakh rupees. They will be presented in a function to be held at Pragjyoti ITA Centre on September 5 at three in the afternoon. Dr Mihir Choudhuri, VC of Tezpur University will be the chief guest in the programme in which State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma will be present.

Mentioning this in a press meet today, the principal of the college, Dr Hitesh Deka described the awards as an attempt to honour deserving persons and entities with impeccable credentials. The KC Das Commerce College is the only institution in the entire North-east to institute such awards, he added.
