Tribune Group delegation calls on martyr Maneswar Basumatary�s family

RANGIYA, Feb 23 - Representatives from the management of The Assam Tribune Group of Newspapers and the Assam Tribune Employees� Union (ATEU) today visited the house of martyr Maneswar Basumatary at Kalbari near Tamulpur in Baksa district.

The group comprised senior journalist and president of the ATEU Santanava Hazarika, secretary Dugdharam Kalita, Anima Das (organising secretary), Tankeswar Kakati (assistant secretary), Utpal Karmakar (treasurer), Pankaj Barthakur and Bhaskar Das (both members) and Karuna Kanta Pathak, Superintendent of The Assam Tribune.

The group met the bereaved family members of the martyr including his widow Sanmati Basumatary, son Dhananjay Basumatary and daughter Bidangshree Basumatary and conveyed their heart-felt condolences on behalf of the management of The Assam Tribune Group of Newspapers and the ATEU. Later, a citation signed by Prafulla Govinda Baruah, Managing Director, The Assam Tribune Group of Newspapers, Santanava Hazarika, president, ATEU and Dugdharam Kalita, secretary, ATEU was handed over to the family members of the martyr. The citation, stating the grief and condoling the demise, was read out by Pankaj Barthakur. The citation expressed heartfelt sympathy over the loss of martyr Maneswar Basumatary, who laid down his life for our country at the hands of terrorists in a ghastly suicide attack at Pulwama in Jammu & Kashmir on February 14.

Mementoes and souvenirs of the golden jubilee celebration of the ATEU, besides newspaper copies of Dainik Asam and The Assam Tribune were also handed over to the family members and other leading citizens present in the martyr�s house. The wife of the martyr expressed her gratitude to the management of the Assam Tribune Group of Newspapers and the ATEU for standing with the former at this hour to overcome the amount of grief and sorrow. �We are extremely grateful to you and your esteemed newspaper organisation for taking so much pain to visit this place with your philanthropic gesture,� she said while soliciting the presence of all the representatives on March 3 next in the ceremonial rituals of the deceased martyr.
