GUWAHATI, March 15 - The Assam Tribune team clinched the Badaruddin Ahmed Memorial Table Tennis Championship team title in the 10th North East Media Sports Festival.

In the final played at the ABITA Indoor Stadium in RG Baruah Sports Complex here on Friday, The Assam Tribune edged past Prasar Bharati 2-1.

In the first singles, Santanu Chakraborty of Prashar Bharati defeated Rituraj Borthakur of The Assam Tribune 14-12, 11-2, 11-5 while in the second singles, PJ Baruah of The Assam Tribune got the better of Lokendra Singh of Prashar Bharati 7-11, 14-12, 11-5. In the deciding doubles match, PJ Baruah paired with Rituraj Borthakur to beat Gautam Sarma and Santanu Chakraborty 18-20, 11-6, 14-12.

Earlier, in the semifinals, The Assam Tribune beat The Telegraph 2-1 while Prasar Bharati defeated Assam Sports Journalists Association 2-0.

In the men�s open event final, Debojit Dutta of Adinor Songbad beat Mehdi Hussain of The Telegraph 11-8, 12-10 to clinch the title. In the women�s section, L Aruna Chanu of Prasar Bharati bagged the title defeating Anupama Gogoi Daulagapu in the final. Nibedita S Mandha secured the third spot.

In the Arobindo Buragohain Badminton Championship, Nayan Kachari of The Telegraph lifted the singles title defeating Sivasish Thakur of The Assam Tribune 2-0 in the final.

The football championship of the festival for the Harendra Nath Baruah Memorial Trophy will start at the Nehru Stadium on Saturday.
