Tribal language directorate soon

GOSSAIGAON, Jan 31 � A separate directorate for tribal language will be created soon, assured Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today while inaugurating the open session of the 45th annual conference of Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) at Daori Pwthar at Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar district.

Addressing the gathering, Gogoi further said that through quality education we can develop any community as well as region for which a fullfledged university has been set up in Kokrajhar and full time Vice-Chancellor has also been appointed.

He hoped this university would fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the students� community of Bodoland as well as in the lower Assam districts. He also stressed on vocational courses.

At the same time Gogoi also opined that the Bodo Sahitya Sabha has been playing a significant role in maintaining peace and harmony in the region and hoped it will continue the same in the near future. He also appealed to all the militant outfits to shun the path of violence and come to the negotiation table to resolve their problems, if any.

Attending the open session as chief guest, Dr Kandarpa Kumar Deka, Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University said that due to lack of Bodo medium students are facing problems. However, the process is going on to overcome the situation, he revealed.

Hagrama Mohilary, chief of BTC said that development is the main objective of BTC administration and appealed for cooperation from every corner.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Kameswar Brahma, president of BSS and Chandan Brahma, P&RD Minister, PR Brahma, WPT&BC Minister, Biswajit Daimary MP (RS), SK Bwiswimuthiary, MP (LS) and Dr Sobha Brahma amongst others attended the meeting.

The BSS also felicitated Dr Sobha Brahma, first Kalaratna awardee of NER from Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi.

Earlier, a colourful cultural procession was brought out in which different cultural troupes participated.

The sabha adopted some resolutions like pressurising the Government for early appointment of Bodo teachers, a clear cut education and language policy of Bodo medium, among others. The BSS also appealed to all the militant outfits to refrain from any kind of violent activities and stop gun culture in the area.
