Tree felled, taken out of GU VCs quarters

By Correspondent

JALUKBARI, May 11 - An unusual incident took place last night near the residence of the Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University Dr Mridul Hazarika.

In a campus adequately surrounded by guards, a sandalwood tree had been cut off, causing quite a stir. Surprisingly, no one had suspected anything, with the VC discovering the theft only in the morning.

What is baffling is, how such a valuable tree could be felled and taken out of the well-guarded during the night.

Meanwhile, GU Registrar Dr SK Nath told The Assam Tribune that a case has been registered at the Jalukbari Police Outpost. The police are investigating the matter, and have quizzed Bipul Das, a security guard in this regard.
