Translation award for Suranjana Baruah

GUWAHATI, May 23 � Writer Suranjana Baruah has been chosen for the first Pallavi Barua Bhuyan literary award for translation instituted by the Pallavi Barua Bhuyan Foundation. Baruah has been chosen for the award for her English translation of the Assamese classic Miri Jiyori by Rajanikanta Bardoloi.

The award will be formally presented to the writer at a function at the Vivekananda Kendra at 3:30 pm on May 27, a press release stated.

Veteran journalist DN Bezboruah will be the chief guest of the function to be presided over by poet-critic Hirendranath Dutta. The memorial lecture on the occasion will be delivered by critic Prof Madan Sarma. Writers Dr Sivanath Barman and Pankaj Thakur will be the distinguished guests at the function.

Translator Deepika Phukan will be felicitated for her lifetime achievement on the occasion.

The third edition of Grandma�s Tales � an English translation of Lakshminath Bezbaroa�s children classic Burhi Aair Sadhu� will also be released at the function.
