Trains to Bangla through Mahishasan urged

HAILAKANDI, Nov 16 � The Society for Education and Human Development, Assam has urged the Railway Ministry to start the Indo-Bangla rail communication through Mahishasan. In a memorandum to the Railway authorities, the chief of the society and eminent lawyer, Daiyan Hussain said that the trains are plying every day up to Mahishasan and if this train is allowed to enter Bangladesh, then rail communication will be easier for residents of of both the countries.

Saying that train services were stopped after the partition of India, he added that the economic condition of Barak Valley and the entire Northeast will definitely be strengthened if the train services connect Bangladesh through Mahishasan. The communication with Bangladesh will be easier and the people of Manipur and Nagaland will particularly be benefited. Besides communication in the north-eastern region with the South Asian countries will also be easier, he added in the memorandum.

The memorandum also mentioned that the Foreign Ministers of both India and Bangladesh met at New York in September last and discussed about rail connectivity between both the countries. They discussed about the rail route of Akhaura-Agartala, Chilahat-Haldibari and Sylhet-Karimganj and sought immediate action of the Government of India in this regard. Copies of the memorandum have also been given to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Digvijay Singh and Karimganj MP, Lalit Mohan Suklavaidya.

Sadhu Thakur birth anniversary: The 141st birth anniversary of Sri Sri Bhubaneswar Sadhu Thakur, the foremost saint of Bishnupriya Manipuri community was observed at Sri Sri Bhubaneswar Sadhu Thakur Sevashram in Hailakandi with a two-day programme.

A meeting on the life and ideals of Sadhu Thakur was held under the chairmanship of the president of the Sevashram, Lal Mohan Sinha and was addressed by Barun Kumar Sinha, Ruhidas Sinha, Nishi Kanta Sinha among others. All the speakers highlighted the various activities of Sadhu Thakur for the upliftment of Bishnupriya Manipuri community. They also urged the people of the community to follow the ideals of Sadhu Thakur. The meeting informed the release of Rs 50,000 from the MLA�s LAD Fund of Karticksena Sinha, the lone MLA of Bishnupriya Manipuri community from Patherkandi, for the development of the Sevashram.

A cultural procession was also taken out on the occasion on the main streets of Hailakandi town with the portrait of Sadhu Thakur. Various other programmes including cultural programme, worshiping of Sadhu Thakur etc were also held on the occasion.
