Trains on Murkongselek-Delhi route demanded

By Correspondent

UDALGURI, June 29 - The Railway Ministry should seriously think of plying more trains on the new BG route from Murkongselek to New Delhi. There is logical ground to reschedule the existing timetable of the Dekargao-Rangiya Junction Down passenger train in the collective interest of the travelling public.

The above was voiced by a group of senior citizens here recently while talking to this correspondent. We have decided to form a railway passengers committee in order to place our demand before the concerned authority to this effect, they added.

The senior citizens also said that passengers along the Murkongselek-Udalguri-Tangla route feel that the Railway Ministry should think about the needs of the poor people and introduce a superfast train from Murkongselek to New Delhi with stoppages at Lakhimpur, Gohpur, Rangapara Junction, Udalguri, Tangla, Rangiya, New Bongaigaon Junction, Kokrajhar, Alipurduar, Coochbehar, New Jalpaiguri, Katihar, Khagaria, Mansi, Begusarai, Barauni via Hajipur, Chapra, Sewan, Dewaria, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Allahabad and New Delhi, which would benefit thousands of New Delhi and Bihar, UP-bound people, particularly the large number of students studying outside the State from this region and employees.

They also suggested to the NF Railway authority to undertake a test-run of the superfast train to see the heavy rush of passengers in this route which would encourage the NF Railway authority to authorise regular running of this train at least three days a week. We hope the NF Railway authority would take our demand seriously and with utmost sincerity, they observed.

On the other hand, the senior citizens were of the view that there is no meaning of running a passenger train from Dekargaon in the evening as it is seen that there are two more express trains which can accommodate the passengers from Rangapara to Rangiya Junction during the night.

Rather, they reasoned that the Railways should run the Down Dekargaon-Rangiya passenger train in the daytime with departure at 2.00 pm from Dekargaon in order to facilitate the large number of students and Government employees, besides the day-to-day commuters of the region, to reach Rangiya Junction by 5 pm, so that they get sufficient time to board other express trains in order to travel outside the State. They also felt that the Down passenger train departing from Dekargaon for Rangiya Junction too should be extended upto the New Bongaigaon Junction for the benefit of the passengers on the route.

It may perhaps be pertinent to mention here that members of the Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) discussed in detail about such problems in the first DRUCC meeting held on October 29, 2015 at the DRM conference hall in Rangiya Junction and subsequently submitted a memorandum to the DRM of Rangiya Division, where the Railway authority too assured to sympathetically look into the problems and solve them accordingly.
