Trains affected in Lumding-Silchar section

By Staff Reporter

GUWUAHATI, April 24 - Landslide triggered by heavy rainfall at four locations in the Lumding-Silchar section forced the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to cancel or short-terminate a few trains on Sunday.

Landslide was triggered by very heavy rainfall at four locations during the night and early morning. Of these, three locations have been attended by railway authorities and have become fit for movement of trains. Work is still in progress at one location which is likely to take some more time, NFR said in an official statement.

It added that owing to the situation, the 05601 Silchar-Alipurduar special was cancelled between Badarpur and Alipurduar, while the 55616 Guwahati-Silchar Fast Passenger was cancelled between Lumding and Silchar.

The 55616 Silchar-Guwahati Fast Passenger was also cancelled and so was the 25657 Guwahati-Silchar Kanchanjungha Express.

It also said that the 25658 Silchar-Guwahati Kanchanjungha Express of April 25 will remain cancelled.

Due to continuous inclement weather, passenger trains will remain suspended today as a measure of abundant precaution... Passenger services will be resumed from tomorrow provided there is no further damage to track due to continuous inclement weather condition in the hill section, NFR said.

Meanwhile, the 15602 UP Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express, whose engine derailed between Ditokcherra and Bandarkhal station in the Lumding-Silchar hill section late last evening was brought back to Ditokcherra and left Ditokcherra station for Silchar at 8.55 am on Sunday.

The derailed engine was re-railed at 3.40 am and section was cleared. All passengers on board are safe, said NFR.

The General Manager of NFR, along with his team of officers, left on Saturday night for New Haflong and is now monitoring the restoration work and extension of help to passengers.
