GUWAHATI, Dec 23 - The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Regional Centre organised a five-day training of trainers (ToT) programme on inland ornamental fisheries management for income generation from December 7 to 21 here. The training programme was sponsored by National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad.
�A total of 25 fisheries officials from Madhya Pradesh, Manipur and Assam participated in the training programme. The basic objective of the programme was to disseminate knowledge on various aspects of ornamental fisheries among the departmental officials and progressive entrepreneurs so that they can pass on the knowledge to fishers for accruing the real value of such fishes in the domestic and international markets,� a statement issued by CIFRI said.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr SK Das, Principal Scientist and Head, Fisheries Division, ICAR Research Complex on NEH Region at Umiam in Meghalaya.
The programme included a session on the prospect of indigenous ornamental fishes and their conservation measures. Various topics on inland ornamental fisheries, including trade, breeding, culture, live feed, nutrition, water quality and disease management, schemes of financial institutions like NABARD and NFDB and practical aspects, were covered in the training programme.
A field visit to Amranga Ornamental Fish Breeding Unit at Mirza was organised for practical exposure to ornamental fish breeding and culture facilities.
