HAFLONG, Aug 20 - NC Hills Autonomous Council Executive Member Poudamin Newme, in charge of Veterinary, inaugurated a two-day training on scientific goat farming for unemployed youths of Dima Hasao at Haflong Veterinary campus earlier this week.

The training programme was organised by the District Veterinary Officer with assistance of Hills Live and attended by NCHAC secretary LZ Nampui, additional director in charge of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department Dr J Gogoi, district veterinary officer Dr B Kakati and others.

Newme lit the inaugural lamp, which was followed by a welcome speech by Dr Kakati, who explained the aims and objectives of the training programme, while appreciating the youths of Dima Hasao for their willingness to take up farming as their source of income instead of pursuing government jobs. Nampui and Dr Gogoi appreciated the organisers for arranging such training for the youths of Dima Hasao and appealed to the upcoming generation to avail the opportunities being provided by the government.

Newme, known for his enthusiasm for livestock farming, said Dima Hasao is blessed with abundant natural recourses and people are hardworking. If the youths come forward for such livestock farming, the department would extend every possible support to them to make them successful farmers.

He assured that he would extend support to these unemployed youths under any circumstances. He appealed to the people to come forward to make the district a self-sufficient one by adopting farming. Altogether, 20 participants from Jatinga, Gunjung, Diyungbra and other places attended the training programme on scientific goatery where Dr Amit Phonglo, Dr Hancy Dibragede and Dr Titus Thiek attended as resource persons.
