Training on English for school teachers

TEZPUR, Sept 13 - A day-long training programme on English was organised among the teachers of over 90 schools of Sonitpur district by the Sonitpur district chapter of Higher Secondary Principals� Forum and in association with office of the inspector of Schools, SDC, Tezpur at the Bengali Boys� Higher Secondary School here recently. The programme was formally inaugurated by DC, Sonitpur district, Narsing Pawar in the presence of the Inspector of Schools, SDC, Tezpur Jayram Hazarika, Principal of Bengali Boys� Higher Secondary School, Swapan Sarkar and the president of SMDC of Tezpur Bengali Boys� HS School.

In his inaugural speech Pawar spoke on the priority of the training of the programme. �Lack of professional training and professional development of teachers may hamper the quality of their teaching and affect their ability to nurture competent students with the necessary knowledge and skills in different subject matters. Today, there is a need to shift from the traditional-based teaching that is largely based on theoretical educational processes to a research-theory-based teaching that informs and inspires teaching practices,� Pawar said adding that besides a number of challenges in dealing with delivering good education to the students, there is an obligation also upon the teachers� community. Urging the teachers to keep themselves always updated, he said that for the nation�s development, health and education are to be given top priority through which both knowledge and wisdom flow spontaneously.

Inspector of schools, SDC, Tezpur, Jayram Hazarika applauding the organisers for materialising such a beneficial task for the teachers of different schools of the district, said that all sort of necessary assistance would be provided from the government side. Participating in the day-long training programme, Principal of Chandranath Sharma HS School and a prominent resource person in imparting training on English, Meenakshi Goswami and Manmayuri Goswami from CTE, Tezpur gave lively presentations on �Purpose of Teaching English, English Grammar and Prose and Poetry� and �How to Prepare a lesson Plan� respectively which kept all the participating teachers glued to their seats. Attending the event another resource person Mohan Goswami discussed about the techniques of teaching English grammar. At the end, the participant teachers were awarded certificates of participation. This was followed by another two day training programme on Science and Mathematics.
