Training for Para Legal Persons organised

GUWAHATI, Feb 9 - A three-day training programme for Para Legal Persons (PLPs) was organised by the Legal Cell for Human Rights (LCHR), Guwahati from February 5 where 40 PLPs representing from three districts including Nagaon, Sonitpur and Udalguri participated.

Mridul Kumar Kalita, the District and Sessions Judge, Sonitpur, during the inaugural function of the training programme at Don Bosco Socio-Technical Institute Dekargaon, Tezpur, said that LCHR is doing laudable work and it was great that it has chosen the Para Legal Persons (PLPs) with leadership quality and now is also working on child rights.

He said that the PLPs could be the link between people and Judiciary when they are victims due to lack of knowledge and ignorance. Felcita D' Souza, the Programme Coordinator of Legal Cell for Human Rights (LCHR), Guwahati was also present on the occasion.

The resource persons from Child Welfare Committee, Labour Commission and District Elementary Education Officer of Sonitpur district delivered lectures on ways and means of preventing child labour, the role of Child Welfare Committee in providing free and compulsory education to the children in the tea plantation areas of Assam and implementation of RTE.

Speaking at the concluding function of the training programme on February 7, Ravi Sagar, Director, LCHR stressed that for Para Legal Persons it is a constitutional mandate to provide legal aid and justice to the marginalised.
