Train ticket leads to arrest of murder accused

DIMAPUR, April 28 - A train ticket led the Dimapur police to arrest the accused husband wanted in connection with the murder of his wife.

Police on April 25 nabbed the accused Islam Uddin (36), son of Giyas Uddin, from Sarupathr in Golaghat district of Assam. The accused is from Barawar village under Murajar police station and a resident of Sarupathar.

According to a press release issued by the Dimapur Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police and PRO, the investigating police team made the breakthrough on the recovery of a train ticket from the purse of the victim, Rashida Khatun (28), whose body was recovered from 6th Mile area here on March 11.

The single train ticket led the police to Sarupathar and Uriamghat in Golaghat district, where the identity of the victim as well as the accused was established.

The accused confessed that on the pretext of visiting his friends and acquaintances at Dimapur on March 10, he along with his wife boarded the Avadh-Assam Express from Sarupathar. On reaching Dimapur, the accused reportedly hired an autorickshaw and took his wife to 6th Mile here after which she was taken to an interior area on foot saying her that his friend�s house was nearby, stated the release.

On reaching a secluded paddy field, the husband murdered his wife by strangulating and after hitting her with a stone before fleeing to Assam, said the police.

Later, the accused disclosed to police that he murdered his wife due to marital discord. In this connection, a case has been registered with the Women Police Station at Dimapur for further investigation.
