Train stoppage demanded

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Aug 15 - The people of the greater Sootea area in Sonitpur district have demanded halt of all types of trains at Niz Chatia railway station.

In a memorandum sent to the General Manager of NF Railway, Maligaon, Guwahati, the people of the area under the banner of the Sootea Unnayan Samiti urged him to take measures for stoppage of all types of trains, including the 15613/15614 Guwahati-Murkongselek Intercity Express introduced recently, at Niz Chatia railway station.

It may be mentioned here that Sootea has a historical background and the Triranga was hoisted at the Sootea Police Station in 1942. It is a large area ranging about 240 sq km with a population of around 120,000. A good number of educational institutions, government offices and banks are situated at Sootea. It also has the historical Nag Shankar Temple that attracts plenty of devotees and tourists every year.
