Train services affected in State

GUWAHATI, Oct 28 - Train services in the State were hit since Sunday afternoon due to the rising water levels in the Dhansiri river between Bokajan and Chongajan stations.

Long-distance trains from Upper Assam were diverted via the Bogibeel Bridge and the north bank of the Brahmaputra. Many local and short-distance trains were cancelled or short-terminated, said Nripen Bhattacharya, PRO of NF Railway.

Senior officials of NFR�s Lumding Division are at the site and restoration work is in progress. Adequate arrangements for providing basic amenities to passengers of the cancelled and short-terminated trains have been made at the stations, he added.

Regular services are expected to be restored by late tonight.

Among the trains that were cancelled today were the 12086 Dibrugarh-Guwahati Shatabdi Express, the 15968 Dibrugarh-Rangiya Intercity Express, the 55904 Mariani-Dimapur Passenger, the 55902 Tinsukia-Lumding Passenger, the 55903 Dimapur-Mariani Passenger and the 12088 Guwahati-Naharlagun Shatabdi Express.

NFR has also announced cancellation of the 55901 Lumding-Tinsukia Passenger train scheduled for tomorrow, besides the 12087 Naharlagun-Guwahati Shatabdi Express, the 12085 Guwahati-Dibrugarh Shatabdi Express, while the 15718 Mariani-Guwahati Intercity Express of tomorrow will originate from Dimapur and remain partly cancelled between Dimapur and Mariani.

The 15933 Dibrugarh-Amritsar Express will leave Guwahati tomorrow as per the timetable and will remain partially cancelled between Dibrugarh and Guwahati. The 15909 Avadh Asaam Express scheduled to depart tomorrow will also leave Guwahati and remain partially cancelled between Dibrugarh and Guwahati.
