Trailokya wins GTC chess title

GUWAHATI, July 27 - Trailokya Nanda of Jorhat clinched the title in the 1st edition of the GTC Classic Chess, an international rating chess tournament organised by the Gauhati Town Club to celebrate the completion of 5 years of its in house chess academy � GTC Chess Foundation.

On the final day of the championship last evening Trailokya finished with 8.5 points out of 10 rounds and pocketed the winners cheque of Rs 25,000. Rakesh Chakravorty of Jorhat who was leading the tournament until the 7th round had to settle for the second position with 8 points and received a cheque of Rs 20,000. Ankan Roy of West Bengal secured the third position and went home richer with a cheque of Rs 15,000. A total Prize Money of Rs 1,50,000 was distributed as prize money in this five-day Swiss League event played under classical time control in which 166 players from across the country including three players from Nepal participated.
