Trafficked Lakhimpur girl child rescued

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, April 22 - A seven-year-old girl from Lakhimpur district, who was reported missing since the last four months, has been rescued from captivity from a household in Arunachal Pradesh.

Barakha Neog (7), daughter of Jadab Neog of Mori Dirgha village under Bogeenadi Police Station in Lakhimpur was allegedly taken by one Bhola Gogoi of Charaimoris village under the same police station and by Anjana Nayak of no. 2 Balijan village under Silaneebari police outpost on January 5 and subsequently sold to a household in Arunachal Pradesh.

Though Anjana Nayak was arrested following filing of an FIR by Jadab Neog, the trafficked girl had not been rescued by the law enforcing agencies.

However, after the initiative taken by Lakhimpur DSP Runa Neog, a team of police from Bogeenadi Police Station succeeded in locating and rescuing the trafficked girl from Ganga Basti in Papum Pare district with help from Arunachal Pradesh Police on Saturday.

The girl child was subsequently handed over to her father after a night�s transit at the Child Care Centre of North Lakhimpur.
