GUWAHATI, Oct 20 - The city traffic police is going to impose restrictions on vehicular traffic in view of the Durga Puja which begins from October 22.
Goods-carrying vehicles shall not be allowed to enter the city from 1 pm to 4 am of the next day, while the heavy trucks will be allowed to enter the city only from 4 am to 7 am.
Several routes including Dr RP Road will be one-way from the Ganesh Mandir side. No-entry will be in place on the service road from the wholesale market side to Ganeshguri. Light motor vehicles coming from the Secretariat may take the wholesale market road towards Ganesh Mandir (one-way).
Diversions would be effected on many busy routes, including AK Azad Road (Nepali Mandir), Panbazar, GNB Road (if necessary) and on Jaswant Road from HB Road point towards CK Road (if necessary). There will be no-entry for heavy vehicles, including city buses, from Adabari Tiniali to Pandu. Only LMVs and two- and three-wheelers will be allowed to proceed towards Pandu from Adabari Tiniali side (one-way) to come out via Maligaon Chariali.
Several other routes, including the one from Maligaon Chariali to Pandu, Beltola, and the road between Maligaon Chariali and Kamakhya railway station level-crossing have been marked no-entry. All vehicles from Kamakhya Railway Station and Gotanagar shall be allowed to move through Gate No.3 and the Railway headquarters. Parking of vehicles shall not be allowed on AT Road (Athgaon flyover to Bharalumukh) and Dinesh Goswami Road (between Bharalumukh to Santipur). There will also be no-parking on MS Road, HB Road, TRP Road, MLN Road, B Borooah Road, MG Road, MC Road, MRD Road, GS Road, FC Road, GNB Road and RG Baruah Road.
The police have identified designated routes for city buses. As for idol immersion, guidelines have been issued to the puja committees. No idol-carrying vehicle shall be allowed to pass through the B Borooah Road from Ulubari to the TC point and through the GNB Road from the TC point to the RBI point.
