Traffic restrictions for public safety

GUWAHATI, Oct 7 - To ensure safety of public, especially vulnerable road users like children, students, women, senior citizens and differently-abled persons, Guwahati Police (Traffic) has imposed certain restrictions on movement of vehicles from October 7 to 10 in the city, a statement by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amanjeet Kaur stated.

According to the regulations, goods carrying vehicles (heavy, medium and mini trucks) shall not be allowed to enter the city from 1 pm to 4 am from Jalukbari, Garchuk, Lokhra, Beltola, Hatigaon and Chandmari side. The goods carrying heavy trucks will be allowed to enter the city from 4 am onwards (subject to no obstruction on the road due to puja) up to 7 am.

However, for trucks plying to and from the BG Yard, Noonmati and the FCI godowns, New Guwahati, the period of entry is scheduled from 3 am to 12 noon via Six Mile, Joyanagar, Khanapara and Express Highway.

In Dispur area, Dr RP Road will be one way only from Ganesh Mandir side and there will be �no entry� for vehicles coming from RG Baruah Road side to Ganesh Mandir. Vehicles will have to move via Service Road, GS Road and Supermarket Point. There will also be �no entry� on the service road from the wholesale market side to Ganeshguri.

Light motor vehicles coming from the Assam Secretariat can take the wholesale market road towards Ganesh Mandir (one-way). In Paltan Bazar area, there will be �no entry� on AK Azad Road from Nepali Mandir side towards Sarabbhatti. Similarly, in Panbazar area, there will be �no entry� on MS Road from Sani Mandir side. Entry will be open from Railway Gate No. 4 only.

Besides, there will be �no entry� on Dr JC Das Road from Khubchand point and entry of vehicles will be allowed from Tribeni Sweets point only (JC Das Road � Danish Road).

A number of similar restrictions will be enforced from Maligaon Chariali to Pandu, RK Choudhury Road and SC Road from Kumarpara Pachali, Fatasil Ambari and AT Road (Athgaon flyover to Bharalumukh). In Basistha and Chandmari areas too, restrictions have been imposed.

Restrictions on the movement of city buses have also been imposed during the puja days, including in areas like Basistha Mandir, ISBT, Adabari, Beltola, Bhangagarh and Lokhra among other locations. In addition, routes for light commercial passenger vehicles and slow moving vehicles have also been regulated and restricted.
