GUWAHATI, March 14 - Negligence of all departments concerned in implementing proper rules and regulations on the stretch of road from Bhangagarh to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) is making the lives of patients coming to the hospital vulnerable.
Traffic congestion and unhygienic conditions are regular features on this stretch, where the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on some occasions carried out eviction drives against illegal businesses. All this is posing a challenge to the GMCH in providing quality medical service. �To provide quality service, maintenance of hygiene in and around the hospital is a must. But, unfortunately, we lack such an environment. Often, we get complaints from patients and attendants on this issue. So, it is an appeal from our side to the district administration to take some action to improve the environment around the GMCH,� said GMCH superintendent Dr Ramen Talukdar.
Moreover, trekkers and rickshaws stopping near the main entrance of the hospital to drop and pick up passengers also compound the traffic congestion problem, while creating hurdles for easy movement of ambulances, which very often carry seriously ill patients. A senior resident of the area also alleged that vegetable vendors and fish sellers are also adding to the traffic problem, especially on the Rupnagar-Birubari road.
