Trade unions draw up May Day programmes

GUWAHATI, April 30 - Along with the rest of the world, International Workers� Day, also known as May Day, will be observed tomorrow in Assam by the workers and employees of different organised and unorganised sectors.

The Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) will observe the day in a number of locations in Guwahati from 9 am onwards. May Day programmes will also be held at Athgaon, Boragaon, Maligaon, Basistha, Kalapahar, Birubari, Panjabari, Narengi, Khanapara, Patharquarry and Katahbari.

The Assam Tribune Employees� Union (ATEU) will observe the day on the Tribune premises and will also take part in a joint event being organised by different trade unions.

ATEU president Siba Prasad Deka will hoist the flag at the union�s permanent office, while the institution�s senior employee Pranay Bordoloi will hoist the flag hoisting on The Assam Tribune building premises at 10 am. A procession will also be taken out on the occasion.
