GUWAHATI, June 16 - A North East Federation of International Trade (NEFIT) delegation today left for China to expand bilateral trade as well as people-to-people links.
The delegation is led by Vijay Gupta of the Assam Chamber of Commerce and has a mixture of delegates from the fields of academics, business, publication and governance, informed NEFIT general secretary Mrinal Hatkhowa.
The delegation will visit Yunnan province of China, cities of Kunming, Baoshan and Tengchon and meet the trade delegations of that country. The delegation will also explore the possibilities of conducting trade through the Stillwell Road as Baoshan is the nearest Chinese town from this road.
The NEFIT representatives had earlier met Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to brief him about the visit and will submit a report on the status of doing trade through the Stillwell Road after returning. From Baoshan of China to Nampong of Arunchal Pradesh near Jairampur, it is just 24 hours of non-stop drive. However, several stretches of the Stillwell Road are no longer in good condition and need urgent focus.
