By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 23 - The Paltan Bazar Police has taken Binod Boro, the accused involved in the recent blast in the Kamakhya-Dekargaon Intercity Express, into custody in connection with the toy explosion at Manipuri Basti here on November 13 in which a minor girl received serious injury.

Paltan Bazar Police Station officer-in-charge Dharani Barman said Boro confessed that he had planted the explosive in the toy. Boro has been taken into five-day police remand.

The target was different. Boro intended to target the girl's maternal uncle who had bought a vehicle from him. The vehicle was bought on instalment. The girls uncle failed to pay the instalments and the financing agency made repeated calls to Boro to clear the instalments as the vehicle was still in his name, police quoted Boro as saying during interrogation.

Boro, who hails from Goreswar, himself made the explosive-fitted toy using gunpowder.

Police investigating the train blast had earlier said Boro does not belong to any outfit but he had served extortion notes in the name of BFDN by interchanging the letters of the NDFB.

He made three bombs using splinters and chemicals normally used for firecrackers. Police had found one of the bombs from the backyard of a residence.

At Manipuri Basti, the class-III girl had found the explosive-fitted toy on the roadside. She took it home and it exploded while she was playing with it.
