By STAFF Correspondent

SHILLONG, Oct 8 - The Meghalaya Government has notified the reopening of tourist sites across the State for local residents. It further stated that upper primary schools for students would reopen for consultation from October 15.

These decisions were taken by the Departments of Home and of Education. However, people have been strictly advised to follow the health protocols and SOPs.

All tourist spots, places in the State are permitted to reopen for local tourists from within the State with effect from October 16, a notification stated. It added that all entities, organisations or associations wishing to reopen such places should intimate the deputy commissioners, confirming adherence to the SOPs.

The Meghalaya Government has already allowed tourists to visit the State, but they have to undergo rapid antigen tests before entry and would be permitted to stay for only three days.

Tourists will have to make prior accommodation arrangements before coming and they have been advised to restrict their movement to the barest minimum.

Meanwhile, the State Education Department has stated that from October 15 onwards, students from classes VI to VIII would be able to attend schools for guidance. However, the schools will reopen on a voluntary basis. It has been decided that before reopening of the schools, the District School Education Officer will take feedback from stakeholders at the district level.

Students from classes IX to XII have already been permitted to attend their classes for consultation. However, before attending classes, the students have to get written consent from their parents. Till last week few students attended these classes as parents continue to remain wary about the pandemic with cases constantly on the rise in the State.

The Education Department has underlined the importance of online classes in the current situation and said that such online classes should continue, irrespective of whether the students attend classes for consultation with their teachers.
