By A Correspondent

GANGTOK, Oct 13 - Pelling is a popular tourist destination in Sikkim and one of the few places in the Himalayan State where local authorities have not lately barred tourism activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Pelling Tourism Development Association (PTDA) recently conducted two training sessions for hoteliers, travel agents and tourist vehicle drivers in West Sikkim. The training sessions were on safety and precautions which are to be adopted while operating tourism activities amid the pandemic.

PTDA president Narayan Khatiwada said on Monday that the Pelling region has been open to tourists from October 10 and since then, tourists have started arriving there. He also stated that most of the hotels have been readied as per the State Governments SOP guidelines.

Pelling is among the famous tourist destinations of Sikkim where one can get a close view of the sacred mountain, Khangchendzonga, and its majestic range. The Buddhist site at Chenregiz Singkham Riwo Potola also sees a lot of footfalls. It has the worlds tallest statue of Chenrezig at 135 feet, which also hosts a skywalk. Asias second largest suspension bridge the Singshore bridge near Uttarey is also a tourist attraction. The palace ruins at Rabdentse are a popular historical site in the Pelling area.
