By MAMATA MISHRA

GUWAHATI, Sept 26 - With an aggressive marketing policy for promoting Awesome Assam, the State Tourism Department plans to make investments into the tourism sector all the more awesome, wooing investors globally to put their money into numerous infrastructure projects coming up in the State in public-private partnership mode.

Banking on the round-the-year tourism avenues in the State, including wildlife, religion, tea and golf, river and adventure, monsoon and leisure, nature and eco, heritage and history, and culture and cuisine, the government is promoting various incentives and financial assistance for the investors to stay put.

With the tourism policy supposed to be largely investment-friendly, incentives like financial grants to the Hindi filmmakers on shooting 50 per cent of the film in Assam, special incentives for investment in remote tourist destinations, grant in aid for organising fairs and festivals, free counselling at the ATDC tourism incubation centre for promotion of entrepreneurship are being promoted among the investors throughout the country.

In notified tourist locations attractive rebates like VAT reimbursement of up to 25 per cent for new units of river cruise, transportation services, etc., luxury tax reimbursement of up to 25 per cent for investment in hotels, etc., promotion of home stays and B&B (bed and breakfast) facilities in a channelised manner are some of the highlights of our marketing policy for investment, sources in the State Tourism Department told The Assam Tribune.
