�Tortured� girl rescued

GUWAHATI, Oct 25 - Chandmari police today rescued a 25-year-old orphan girl, who was allegedly physically tortured, from a household in Gandhi Basti area.

According to police, the girl, who hails from Tulsi Bari area of Kamrup district, was working in the house for the past 10 years. But recently, the husband and wife of the family started physically torturing her for minor reasons and did not allow her to go home.

�The girl was rescued from the house of Abdul Latifur Rahman and Sabana Sultana located in Gandhi Basti Tiniali. She alleged that the couple used to physically torture her. We have also found signs of torture on her face,� Chandmari Police Station officer-in-charge Biren Chandra Deka said.

The girl was rescued after a complaint was filed by her elder brother. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

�The girl has been medically examined and we will start the investigation after getting the report,� Deka said.
