DERGAON, Sept 26 - A man recently caught a tortoise with his fishing rod, which was later handed over to the Forest Department. According to reports, one Jitul Bori of Namtemera in Golaghat district put his fish hook in the Gelabeel river for catching fish, but lifted a tortoise instead. He then released the tortoise off the fish hook with the help of others and informed the Numaligarh Forest Beat Office.
Forest officials subsequently rushed to the spot and took charge of the tortoise which weighed more than 80 kg. Due to a minor injury, the tortoise was sent to the Kaziranga Wildlife Rescue Centre for treatment. The local residents as well as nature lovers praised Bori�s concern for the reptile.
