Torrential rain wreaks havoc in Dibrugarh

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, April 21 - Incessant rains have virtually crippled normal life in this part of the region as most of the people preferred to remain indoors due to the chilly rainy weather. The inclement weather has also affected the Bihu revelry here very much.

The busy commercial areas wore a gloomy look as movements of vehicles and pedestrians came down drastically. Most of the shops in the market areas were seen shut by afternoon. The city dwellers who began wearing their warm clothes witnessed darkness at around 4 pm today.

Although people here as of now are relieved of the recurring water-logging and subsequent artificial flood, the possibility of artificial flood cannot be ruled out in the coming days. Roads and lanes in several places have already begun to show deposited rain waters. The kutcha roads in Ward No. 2, 3 have become slushy and unhygienic.

The inclement weather has become tormented the Bihu revellers. The Bihu marquees wore deserted look with very few people making it for the functions. Although Bihu songs and beats of dhols and pepa can be heard in the localities, the house-to-house Husori is no where to be seen due to the unpleasant weather condition.
