GUWAHATI, April 3 � Grandmaster RR Laxman of ICF, Grandmaster Shriram Jha of LICI and Woman Grandmaster Marry Ann Gomes of West Bengal along with International Master Himanshu Sharma of Haryana, International Master Akshayraj Kore of Maharastra, International Master Suvrajit Saha of Railways, International Master BT Murali Krishnan of Railways, International Master Atanu Lahiri of LICI and International Master GB Prakash of Tamil Nadu are leading the field with two points each after the second round on day 2 of the 4th Jugal Kisore Newatia Memorial International Rating Chess Tournament here today.

Top seed RR Laxman beat Kumar Gaurav of Bihar in Queens Gambit opening with white pieces in 56 moves while another GM Shriram Jha of LICI made short work of Tamchi Kache of Arunachal in 31 moves. Former Asian U-16 champion WGM Marry Ann Gomes of West Bengal defeated Sadhu N Vishal of Gujrat in only 26 moves with black pieces. Other seeded players also had an easy day in the office beating their respective opponent easily. Former Asian U- 10 champion Diptayan Ghosh of West Bengal beat Simran Ahmad of Assam in 37 moves with white pieces to be in joint lead. But 11 year old Amlan Mahanta of Assam created a mini upset when he held highly rated and 19th seed Rupankar Nath of West Bengal to a draw.
