Top priority given to uplift farmers: Mizo CM

AIZAWL, Jan 9 - Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has said that the State Government has accorded top priority to uplift farmers who formed the bulk of Mizo society.

He was addressing a public meeting during his tour to three villages � Khawbung, Zawlsei and Khaungthinga in East Tuioui constituency recently.

The NLUP project has helped uplift the poor section of Mizo society, he said and added that many have successfully implemented and profited from the State flagship programme.

Despite criticisms from many quarters, the NLUP project has achieved immense success and is continuing to be a source of help for the poor, he claimed.

Lal Thanhawla said that the New Economic Development Programme (NEDP) is the follow up of NLUP project. Under NEDP, government will give top priority to development of agriculture and horticulture link road.

The Chief Minister said that the government will give top priority to development of rural areas under NEDP and the main objective of this policy is to augment economy of the State.
