By ANN Service

BAIHATA CHARIALI, Sept 12 - Under the aegis of Rangiya Sub-Division Water Resource Department (WRD) Contractors Association, a general meeting was held on September 10 at Puthimari Durga Puja pandal.

The meeting was held under the presidentship of Bali Kalita, president of Kamrup district WRD Contractors Association. Participating in the meeting as chief guest, Arabinda Hazarika, secretary of the All Assam WRD Contractors Association said that the WRD and the Government had not shown due interest towards the contractors of WRD in the State regarding releasing of their pending bills, and by introducing e-tendering system, the Government has been trying to deprive the small-time local contractors from executing works of the department by imposing some parameters while tendering, which was virtually impossible for the local contractors as they are not economically strong.

The meeting also discussed several issues and problems of the contractors and demanded certain relaxations in the e-tendering system so that smalltime local contractors can also participate in the tender process. Besides these, the association also demanded the WRD authorities concerned to immediately release payments against the pending bills of the flood management project (FMP) and NABARD scheme, including all pending bills from 2010- 2011 fiscal.

In the meeting, a new executive committee of Rangiya Sub-Division WRD Contractors Association was constituted with Ganesh Deka as president, Tarun Das and Mahibuddin Choudhury as vice-president and Ajit Kumar Deka as secretary respectively.
