TMC State chief quits over Mamata remarks

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 2 - President of the Assam State unit of Trinamool Congress (TMC) Dwipen Pathak today resigned from the party in protest against West Bengal Chief Minister and party supremo Mamata Banerjees stand on the NRC issue.

Addressing a press conference here, Pathak said that he has resigned from the post of State president of TMC as well as membership of the party. Some other leaders of the partys Assam unit also quit TMC.

Pathak, who had served as MLA from Hajo constituency between 2011 and 2016, said that he has taken strong exception to certain remarks made by Banerjee in recent days regarding the NRC update process.

He said the controversial remarks made by the TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister have the potential to inflame passions in Assam and endanger the situation.
