TMC flays Dispur for unfair treatment to Barak Valley

By Correspondent

BADARPUR, Dec 1 Flaying unfair treatment of the powers that be at Dispur towards development in Barak Valley, while at the same time taking all the MLAs and MPs of the constituency to task for their criminal profligacies and inept handling of public welfare schemes, the State president of Trinamool Congress (TMC), Debeswar Bora, claimed that the Opposition too had failed the people of the area.

Bora opined as above at a press meet convened recently at the Karimganj Additional Circuit House. Castigating the peoples representatives, he claimed that they did not raise any significant question regarding development of Barak Valley in the Assembly, nor did they care to approach the Chief Minister on any issue. Highlighting the pitiable condition of Barak Valley in all sectors, he cited the instance of dilapidated roads, rail network, Cachar Paper Mill at Panchgram, sugar mill at Chargola and industrial estate at Badarpur Ghat, to name a few, which were in a state of neglect, he alleged. Though the district had immense potential for future development to pave the way for economic emancipation of the masses, especially unemployed youths, the MPs and MLAs had done precious little for the public good, he claimed.

Making a strong case for rallying behind the TMC for all-round development of Barak Valley, Bora appealed to the masses to extend their hand of support to the Barak Bachao movement that his party would launch shortly. Taking a dig at ministers who often claimed that there was an all-round progress in the State on all fronts under the present regime, Bora felt that the term development might probably have a different meaning for the concerned ministers.

Demanding the State Government to set up a medical college each at Karimganj and Hailakandi, Bora felt that the burgeoning unemployment problem in the district should be accorded top priority.

The press meet was also addressed by the State TMC vice president Haren Gogoi, general secretaries Alok Kumar Ghosh (MLA) and Nilotpal Das, besides Karimganj district TMC president Amaresh Roy, among others.

Earlier, Bora and his entourage were felicitated at Badarpur Ghat by members of Badarpur and Karimganj TMC units. Addressing a meeting at Badarpur Choumatha on the occasion, Bora disclosed that following talks with TMC supremo-cum-Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, plans were under way to set up a railway division at Badarpur.
