Tiwa Council polls today

MORIGAON, Aug 18 - As many as 746 polling officials rushed to 190 polling stations located in various parts of Morigaon district today, while another 300 polling and presiding officers remained in reserve for the Tiwa Autonomous Council poll which will be held tomorrow, informed Morigaon Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar today.

Meanwhile, all the zonal magistrates along with 19 sector officers took charge of supervision duty at 8 am today. Eight companies of paramilitary forces were detailed to maintain law and order in the TAC poll areas.

Counting of votes will be held on August 22 at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Morigaon.

Our Staff Reporter adds in Guwahati: In the interest of free and fair elections to the Tiwa Autonomous Council, the Assam State Election Commission has issued restrictions on conduct of any opinion/discussion on the polls, suggesting/forecasting performance/prospect of political party(ies) or any candidate(s) contesting the polls.

The State Election Commission has also imposed restrictions on conduct of any exit poll and publication and dissemination of results of such exit polls between 8 am and 6 pm on August 19 by means of the print or electronic media or dissemination in any other manner, an official press statement said.
