Tithi of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankaradeva observed

MORIGAON, Sept 1 - Along with the rest of the State, the 450th death anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankaradeva was observed today in several satras, naamghars and almost all the schools and colleges of Morigaon district.

Glowing tributes were paid to the great saint of 15th century�s Assamese literature, music and culture by the devotees and the students. Students of all religions arranged naam prasangas and organised open meeting at GKB College, Morigaon where the contribution of founder of New Vaishnavite religion Srimanta Sankaradeva were discussed.

At Sri Sri Naruwa Kuji Satra of the district, the bhakats started the programme with pratah prasanga. This was followed by the Guru Kirtan performed by the women and the children. The �Bhoor Tal Prasanga� and �Bhagavat Path� were the main highlights of the day at the satra. In the evening the one act playBhujan Bihar written by Srimanta Sankaradeva was staged by the young artists of the area. A religious meeting was also held on the occasion.

AT DERGAON: The students of Amar Sharma High School at Dergaon Kamargaon observed the 450th death anniversary of Srimanta Sankaradeva with a difference.

In the day-long programme, a bhaona titled Drona Parba Karna badh was staged where girl students took the key role along with traditional naam prasanga by the bhakats.

The students who acted in the main characters in the bhaona were Deepjyoti Tamuly, Himadri Barthakur, Dipsikha Bora, Gangootry Bora, Nilakhi Hazarika, Pranami Bora, Indranuj Hazarika, Amrit Hazarika, Rajashree Bora, Dipsikha Phukan and Pranami Bora.

Among them the role of Himadri Barthakur who acted on the role of Sri Krishna was widely praised.

Inaugurating the bhaona, the Brand Ambassador of Swachh Bharat Mission for North East States, Sanjoy Kr. Hazarika praised the efforts of the school authority and expressed hope that the plaform given by the school would help the students in future. The head master Abdus Saddek welcomed the guests and the audience.

The bhaona conducted by noted bayan Prabitra Bora and his team and managed by teachers Ripun Kondoly and Mriganka Thakur along with staff Deuty Dutta, Kripal Thakur, Sarat Bora and Porag Hazarika.

Earlier, in the morning a cleanliness drive and sapling plantation was carried out by the students of the school.

The anniversary was also observed in the naamghars of greater Dergaon with extended programmes.
